Stay secure on the go

October is observed globally as Cybersecurity Awareness Month, emphasizing the critical importance of cybersecurity in our digital lives. Understanding emerging cyber risks is essential to ensure our online activities at work and at home remain secure.

Previously we covered, how to spot phishing emails and safeguard your digital identity. This week's focus is on ensuring safe and secure travel with your devices to help you avoid cybersecurity threats and stay informed about potential risks while on the go.

Whether you are attending a conference or embarking on a personal trip, safeguarding your information should always be a top priority.

When traveling with devices, it is crucial to use a proven secure platform for file transfers. These platforms are designed to securely transfer larger files with minimal technical knowledge required. They use encryption to ensure data security during transfer, providing a secure and reliable option for sending and receiving files.

Safe and Secure File sharing - What You Need to Know:

Corporate SharePoint: Allows specific access controls, ensuring sensitive documents can only be viewed or edited by authorized users.

OneDrive or Google Drive: Both provide secure cloud storage, making it easy to access and share files from anywhere. You can enhance security by using password-protected links and setting expiration dates for shared files. Regularly monitoring and removing access when necessary is essential for maintaining security

Check Risks and Secure Your Devices with a VPN

Before you travel, check risk level of your destination and exercise caution accordingly to the travel advisory from the Government of Canada. Take extra steps if needed and ask your internet provider about using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) before you travel, especially when using public Wi-Fi.

Be mindful of your surroundings when using mobile devices in public spaces, as cyber attackers are always waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
